Can We Trust Our Kids’ Report Cards?

Today Go Beyond Grades is launching a campaign to encourage parents to talk to their kids’ teachers about their academic performance and make a plan for the summer. Here are some eye-opening statistcs:

93% of NYC parents think their kids read at grade level

55% of kids actually do

90% of NYC parents think their kids do math at grade level

26% of kids actually do

We know that there is massive gaps between grades and state tests proficiency rates in NYC, which suggests grade inflation. This campaign wants parents to not blindly trust their kids’ report cards and use other resources to measure kids’ learning and make a plan to combat the summer learning loss - which besides its controversy has one consistent finding: every summer offers children who are behind a chance to catch up.

You can help spread the word on social media and encourage other families to check their list of free summer programs in NYC.
